CONGOST of Obarra

On Sunday April 3, section hiking the club we went to visit a section of the GR 18.1 (Ribagorza trails), namely the one that goes to Laspaules Beranuy. Monzón We left by bus around 7:00, and shortly thereafter at 8:30, twenty walkers we used to walk in Beranuy.

The path is the old road informing people of the valley Isábena and trancurre between forests and abandoned fields, but the road is in perfect condition and with plenty of red and white markings. Little by little we went through Morens and after a good ledge we Calvera. Here we take a small breakfast and began the descent to the monastery of Obarra, jewel of Romanesque Ribagorza. Take a moment to get a group picture and continue the march towards Ballabriga, before crossing the river Isábena by a beautiful bridge.

From Ballabriga continuous rise up to "La Croquette", which is nothing more than a rock ledge overlooking the entrance to the gorge of Obarra. From here, overlooking the valley towards the south and enjoy the view of the monastery located below 300 meters vertical. Give us a break and regrouped after the climb, the gorge opened before us, the landscape is wild and disclose to a deer that escapes our presence.

From here the road is already plain through the gorge, until we reached the track leading to thicken. The bus is near, and some group members are tempted and decide to end the tour here ... not in vain and we have 14 km and 900 meters of altitude ... the rest remains determined to reach Laspaules and get together there with the bus.

The trail continues across the Rio Blanco low a bit grown up and forces us to barefoot ... the water is cool, but you can endure ... We eat by the river and continue walking. We will cross two more times, but no longer necessary to remove the boots. The landscape changes as we get closer to the mountains. The day is overcast and we obscures the mountains that surround us: the Turbón, Cotiella, Peña of the Eleven, Sierra de Chia ... all loaded with snow. We like some droplets of water, but we're close to our destination. Before we go through Vilaplana, typical Pyrenean village where the buildings are not yet modern and renovated homes ... a little trip to the past ... In just ten minutes from here we Laspaules and regrouped at the bar for a drink and cool. It's been a long day of hiking, a little over eight hours! but we enjoyed the mountain scenery and villages of the Pyrenees in all its glory.
